KȨDZIERZYN-KOŹLE

Representatives from all partner schools met again in May, in Poland. With participants already familiar with the character and region associated with each country, presentations this time focused on the initial pages of each story. Our Polish partners provided wonderful workshops and insight into their culture.

PILLAR 2: DIGITAL LITERACY

Workshops were designed to capitalise on the fact that young people in the age range of these students are so well versed in the internet, especially the mobile format. The ways in which the internet can be used in teaching, learning and foreign language learning were highlighted and emphasised, with a focus on apps that could be linked to storytelling.

ERASMUS+ IN POLAND

Mid-May 2017 the second visit of the „Erasmus Plus“-Project at the HCA-Gymnasium in SulzbachRosenberg took place in the polish town with the unpronounceable name Kedzierzyn-Kozle. Seven students and two teachers hurled themselves, undaunted by death, into two aircrafts , took the inordinate risk of a temporary diabetic disease due to the vast amounts of polish food and fought against the chaos of languages of Spanish, Irish, Norwegian and Polish English. In the end we were able to experience eight fulfilling and eventful days, which spoiled us with a rich and opulent program.

After a sightseeing tour in Krakow and the impressive salt mines of Wieliczka, the students got to know their host families. The next day we were greeted with different musical performances, a play and the internationally known  Army Music Corps. Following the festivities, the students were organized into internationally mixed workgroups to further improve their skills and work on their stories about local heroes and continue their work from the first “Erasmus Plus” visit in Norway, followed by yet another polish evening with even more food and dance performances.

The students especially liked the visit to the city of Opole, which we explored by ship and a red London double-decker bus. On foot we had to conquer the city of Kozle – in the form of a game involving the town and the terrain, students were send on the hunt for a stolen treasure, which one group happily managed to retrieve after a hunt through the High School, the library, a radio station, and an abandoned tower and for which they were rewarded with a big amount of polish candy.

The farewell at the end was a tearful one and a lot of friendships between Spain, Ireland, Norway, Poland and Germany were formed. Filled with good memories, at least two kilos heavier than before and with new expressions learned in English or Spanish, the students boarded the already familiar aircraft in Krakow.
